This event is now running. The overall duration of the day will be roughly as planned. We will extend the duration of the two walks (more species) and stop for a picnic lunch in between. We will provide wild soft drinks but you will need your own food. You will be able to pick some of the wild foods we find to take home and we will provide recipes. In line with Government guidelines we are limiting the group size to 6 (5 guests plus an instructor), so are now running the event on two dates.
The long days of summer bring a new range of wild food for the forager. The summer fruits, such as Wild Gooseberries, Raspberries, Mirabelles and Sea Buckthorn berries are ready to harvest. Delicious fungi can found in old, unimproved meadows. Flowers can be gathered for making into drinks, both soft and alcoholic, and wonderful puddings. There are still salad greens, wild vegetables and herbs to be found in hedgerows, fields and beside river and shore. For those that enjoy shellfish, crabs may be caught. Join us on one of our summer foraging courses to combine coastal and hedgerow foraging with preparing and eating a three course, wild-food based meal.
This is a full day course comprising:
- A foraging walk at the coast looking for seashore plants and then crabbing
- An inland walk gathering wild food from meadow and hedgerow.
An indoor session preparing, cooking and eating a three-course lunch based on our finds. The lunch menu is flexible and can be suitable for vegetarians and vegans.
