French Fungi Foray

If you would like a longer look at fungi, how about a weekend exploring the beautiful Brittany countryside learning how to identify mushrooms and toadstools?  Dr David Allen, who helps out on our day long Fungus Forays, leads this trip each year. He is a very knowledgeable mycologist (someone who studies fungi) and time in his company is always informative and great fun.  On the holiday you will search woods, meadows and heathland with an eye for the pot at supper. With such fungal diversity and beauty, this French fungi foray weekend will also appeal to artists and photographers. The weekend is about enjoyment of the outdoors with time for sightseeing as well as eating and drinking the local produce!

The Setting

The holiday is held at Moulin Conan in Brittany – a beautifully appointed 17th century Farmhouse and Mill, set in seven secluded acres of woodland, gardens and streams. Here, at this privately owned and run location, you can enjoy delicious food and expert tuition in a relaxed atmosphere.

Accommodation

All seven rooms are twin-bedded and fully equipped with duvets, pillows and linen. (Please bring own towels). There are five bath/shower rooms for guests and a hair-dryer in each bedroom.

Fungi

It is part of French culture to collect and eat wild fungi – our expert Dr David Allen knows which are edible and those which are not! Why not enlarge your knowledge and understanding of this wonderful free food, and discover the unique countryside of Brittany.

Excursions

These can be organised, for example; a trip to the historic town of Morlaix on its Saturday market day, or to the glories of the Pink Granite coast, or the local market town of Guerlesquin which is set in the Parc Naturel Regional d’Amorique.

Meals

Lunches and four course dinners are prepared for you at Moulin Conan, using fresh local ingredients and are charged at cost. Alternatively, if the group wish it, an evening meal can be arranged at a local crêperie or recommended restaurant.

Travel

Transport is door-to-door from Tiverton to Moulin Conan in a comfortable 17-seat minibus (with seatbelts). It is possible to arrange pick-up points in Cullompton, Exeter or Plymouth. The minibus is also available during your holiday. We will travel with Brittany Ferries, sailing from Plymouth to Roscoff. Roscoff is a forty minute drive from Moulin Conan. Four-berth or two-berth cabins can be booked in advance for overnight crossings at an additional charge. You will need a passport, and Euros, which can be purchased on the boat if not bought in advance.
