These walks are aimed at beginners who want to know more about identifying wild mushrooms / fungi. These sessions take the form of a 2 - 3 hour walk to look for edible fungi / mushrooms. We will look at the identification of edible and poisonous species and ignore most inedible species. The walks end, if weather permits, with cooking and sampling our edible finds.
Our approach is not just to show you lots of species and tell you what they are, but to get you to understand why they are a particular species and how to identify them using simple tools. We have a permit from the Forestry Commission to run educational mushroom events in The New Forest. In line with the terms of our permit, this is NOT a trip to gather the biggest haul of edible species possible but is about giving you identification skills and teaching you sustainable, safe and legal practices.
The fungi walks run from 10:00 AM - c. 1:00 PM.
Places on the fungi walks are £30 per person.
The maximum number of participants on the forays is 18.
