Mushrooms / Fungi Walks

These walks are aimed at beginners who want to know more about identifying wild mushrooms / fungi. These sessions take the form of a 2 - 3 hour walk to look for edible fungi / mushrooms. We will look at the identification of edible and poisonous species and ignore most inedible species. The walks end, if weather permits, with cooking and sampling our edible finds.

Our approach is not just to show you lots of species and tell you what they are, but to get you to understand why they are a particular species and how to identify them using simple tools. We have a permit from the Forestry Commission to run educational mushroom events in The New Forest. In line with the terms of our permit, this is NOT a trip to gather the biggest haul of edible species possible but is about giving you identification skills and teaching you sustainable, safe and legal practices.

The fungi walks run from 10:00 AM - c. 1:00 PM.

Places on the fungi walks are £30 per person.

The maximum number of participants on the forays is 18.

Enjoyed our day… learnt a lot

Just to say how much Rox and I enjoyed our day with you on Saturday. We felt we learnt a lot and are armed with a new degree of mushroom confidence – overlaid you will be pleased to hear, but some healthy caution !!

… thoroughly enjoyed the whole day …

Many, many thanks for Sunday. Derek and I thoroughly enjoyed the whole day. You put a lot of effort into including us all and it was also really good fun!
I will definitely be contacting you again for other treats

Derek & Louise, Wiltshire

We would not hesitate to recommend the day out.

Thank you for a superb Fungi walk, what a packed day! Greg and I learnt so much and it was fantastic to have the opportunity to taste the mushrooms at the end of the walk. We found the whole experience both interesting and informative and were amazed at your vast knowledge. We would not hesitate to recommend the day out.

a really enjoyable, well organised and fascinating walk

Oliver and I enjoyed the day enormously and really don’t think it could have been improved upon in any way. You were relaxed as you were informative, and we certainly came away considerably more knowledgeable than we arrived. As you could probably tell, Ollie is a genuine mushroom/wild food lover, and the only downside is that I am now being perpetually nagged to find the nearest mushroom bearing wood and thoroughly explore it for fungal potential!

All in all, a really enjoyable, well organised and fascinating walk in the woods. Thank you for a super day. We will certainly be back to explore and learn more.

Looking forward to seeing again before long,

Ollie and Matthew, Oxfordshire

We loved it …

Thanks so much. We loved it….so much so that despite being soaked we stopped again a bit further along the road and went searching some more……we found Oyster Mushrooms, lots of Amethyst Deceivers and a huge cauliflower fungus!

…brilliant time… excellent

Thank you very much for the fungi foraging experience yesterday morning. Emma and I had a brilliant time in your company exploring the forest for fungi. It was really interesting and informative. Your approach to delivering and imparting your obvious knowledge was excellent. To finish with a taste of our labours was a fitting end to a wonderful morning.

fantastic morning … captivated…

All I can say is what a fantastic morning it was. Where did the 3 hours go? Lara is 10 and Joe is 8, both of them were captivated by the foraging tuition. Great weather helped too. We will be back for sure and promise to spread the word!
