Family Foraging Walks

Foraging and subsequent cooking are great activities for adults and children, offering quality time, fresh air, exercise and something to eat or drink at the end. We should be encouraging the future generations to get "in touch" and "hands-on" with nature.

We believe it is better to run separate courses for adults and families, so we can pitch the course at the right level and maintain the interest of all.

We offer a range of foraging walks aimed at families - hedgerow, seashore and fungi and run them at locations in Dorset and Hampshire.

Hedgerow - discover some of the edible plants, flowers, nuts and berries to be found in our hedgerows. Exactly what we find will vary with the season.
Seashore - wander the seashore to track down great wild veg, seaweed and possibly more!
Fungi - enter the magical kingdom of mushrooms; learn all about them and be amazed at the variety to be found. We have a permit from the Forestry Commission to run educational mushroom events in The New Forest.

Hedgerow & Seashore walks - Adults and over 16s £10, 5 - 15 years old - £5, Under 5s free.
Fungi walks - Adults and over 16s £20, 5 - 15 years old - £10, Under 5s free.

All children must be accompanied - 1 adult to 3 children at most please. Any children attending the walk/event are the responsibility of the accompanying adult.

All walks last approximately 2 hours duration.

The maximum number of participants on the walks is 18.

The course was exactly what we needed …

Thank you James for a thoroughly enjoyable and inspiring day. The course was exactly what we needed and has given us confidence to start foraging ourselves. We have since made several meals with food on our doorstep and has inspired us to keep learning. We have ordered some of the books you suggested. We now can’t go out for a walk without spotting food everywhere. We are amazed at how our relationship with our environment has been enhanced. We have spread the word about the course and fully intend to attend further courses, great value for money a real life changer thank you so much!

I loved it all !!!

Learnt loads, also liked the other aspects you covered on safety. Oli particularly loved catching razor clams and I loved it all !! will see the seashore in a whole new way. We are already spotting some of the things we were shown on the course in places near us. Also the soup at the end was 10/10

fantastic morning … captivated…

All I can say is what a fantastic morning it was. Where did the 3 hours go? Lara is 10 and Joe is 8, both of them were captivated by the foraging tuition. Great weather helped too. We will be back for sure and promise to spread the word!
